MEET JEFF
Sometimes a stroke is caused by a genetic condition as was the case for Jeff. Shortly after his 49th birthday, he was driving with some friends when his stroke occurred. He was able to continue working, even starting a couple of companies. A second stroke, however, changed Jeff’s entrepreneurial focus. Having a stroke “has changed my priorities on what is important in life.”
In spite of some of the physical challenges he experiences, the energy he used in creating businesses and working, he now channels into volunteer work. He says that he looks forward to helping others “more than I ever thought I would.”
Participating at RMSC with others helps him to stay focused on others and not just himself, he adds. He enjoys the Young Enthusiastic Stroke Survivors Group and serves as an ambassador for stroke services, helping to spread the word about the importance of rehabilitation. He also participates in physical therapy and pool therapy. Jeff says that the men’s group has been helpful in handling some of the changes that result from stroke.
Jeff stays optimistic. “Even though I have physical limitations, I have also become dedicated to finding ways to improve life for stroke survivors.”
