MEET MARTHA
Everyone knows Martha. She is the welcoming committee, encouraging committee and the everything-else committee at RMSC. A steady force here for ten years, Martha spent her career as a biology and chemistry teacher, researcher and volunteer. She misses volunteering, but is using retirement to travel the world. She and her husband just recently spent a month vacationing in Hawaii.
Focused on regaining some use of her left arm and hand, Martha especially enjoys art therapy class. She has produced a number of works that are on display at RMSC and have been sold at the annual art fundraising event. “It has given me a creative outlet; I have been able to create some good pieces, too.” She says she has the will and a husband who can take her to various therapies around metro Denver. Martha gives a lot of credit to her husband, Harvey, who helps her continue her recovery process. She looks forward to staying healthy enough “to be a companion and a helpmate for my husband.”
Martha passes the word about RMSC and all the important work of recovery that goes on here to everyone she knows.
When you stop by Rocky Mountain Stroke Center, chances are high that you will meet Martha. She will welcome you and make you feel comfortable right away. She is always up for the challenge of another day. “Learning to live with stroke has been interesting,” Martha says, “despite the sometimes difficult hurdles. I value this addition to my search for life’s meaning.”
