MEET SCOTT
Just about a year ago, Scott felt numbness in his limbs as he worked out at a local swimming pool. It was soon clear that something serious was happening. He calls it his “brain storm.” Humor is one of the ways Scott copes with his condition, and with life itself.
Scott’s greatest claim to fame, he says, is having raised his four kids, two of them as a single father. As a certified electrician plumber, Scott continues to work in his businesses as a design systems engineer, driven by the passion to give to his kids, to leave a legacy for his children, two of whom are still little (ages 6 and 10). In fact, he notes that keeping up with those young ones represents quite a challenge now that he is actively working on his rehabilitation. He also notes that discrimination is alive and well in our culture. “It shocks me, especially in this day and age,” he says, shaking his head.
As with many who experience life-changing events, Scott is no exception. His faith has deepened over the past year. “I’ve grown emotionally and spiritually. I have a much clearer sense of what is important now, of what living as a Christian really means.” He volunteers in the speech lab at RMSC, and participates in physical therapy.
His motto now is “everything in moderation. No more excesses!”
