MEET KEITH
He is a man of few words. He always was, his friends say. As a nuclear medical technician, Keith knew he had accomplished a lot. Since his stroke in 2002, he still believes that, but it is harder for him now to make a list of new goals…other than getting better at cooking. As a single guy who never thought much about the kitchen, he is tired of soup.
One of the biggest accomplishments Keith notes is that he has kept his home through these eight years of rehabilitation. Stroke is the leading cause for leaving one’s home and choosing assisted living options. So for those who find the ways back to independence and have a support system that encourages constant rehabilitation, staying at home becomes a big motivator. He is looking forward to continuous improvement and to a state of mind that he calls a “healing attitude” towards life and the future.
Keith has latched onto the Golf4Fun program that makes golf available to people with varying levels of ability. Keith was named “Student of the Year” in 2009! He also enjoys the physical therapy classes led by Michele Harrison. Keith is silent about his advice about stroke, although he thinks that if people knew more about what can lead to a stroke, it might make a difference.
