MEET DORTHA
Dortha was already retired when she had her stroke at lunch with friends. “Still,” she says, “you are never prepared for something like this. It makes you feel differently about life, having disabilities you never thought you would have.”
She stays busy, however, working on her rehabilitation, swimming, exercising on the treadmill and getting outside with her daughter, Michele Harrison, who is also the Physical Therapist at Rocky Mountain Stroke Center.
While her primary goal is to “stay healthy,” Dortha also admits to looking forward to a nap every now and then. After walking around the San Diego Zoo recently, Dortha says that she is making good progress with mobility. And, like everyone who has had to hand over the car keys, Dortha dreams about being able to drive again.
One of the best things about being part of the RMSC scene, she adds, is how many friends she has made. She looks forward to her time there every week, reconnecting with everyone and sharing progress.
